Rock the Block Classic
The swim teams were back in action at the Rock the Block Classic hosted by Trinity. This is one of the biggest and fastest invitationals in the state. Since this was a sprint meet, the coaches stressed to the swimmers the importance of racing the people around them. Success in sprint events is nearly as much mental as it is physical. The swimmers showed that they were psyched up by getting several personal best times and winning many heats.
The boys were able to capture second place despite only winning one event. The Medley Relay team of Madison Latter, Justin Weiss, Max Cain and Cole Skinker won thanks in part to Skinker's gutsy performance. Skinker made his presence known by taking second in the 100 IM and 3rd in the 50 Fly. Justin Weiss was second in the 50 Breast and fifth in the 100 IM. Max Cain was second in the 50 Fly and fifth in the 50 Free. Jacob Arnold, Madison Latter, Justin Weiss and Austin Schaper were third in the 100 Free Relay and Skinker, Cain, Arnold and Schaper joined up to seal second place overall with fourth place in the 200 Free Relay.
Despite being short handed, the girls took seventh overall only ½ a point behind sixth place. Kelly Rogers and Chelsea Diamond paced the girls with strong swims in the 50 Free and 50 Back. Bethany Coultrap and Kirsten Joss both had personal best times in the 50 Free. Jenna Gipperich showed her improvement in the 50 Breast. Taylor Ecleberry, one of the team’s most consistent swimmers swam well in the 50 Breast and 100 IM.
The team will have this week off from meets as we focus on training. But there are only a few meets left before the post season begins so the next few weeks will be extremely important.
